Rolled Steel Angle - Equal
Rolled Steel Angles – Equal (RSA-e), commonly known as equal angles or L-sections, are structural steel components formed with two sides of identical length set at a right angle. The “equal” designation refers to both legs being the same size, creating a balanced and versatile section suitable for a wide range of construction applications.
These angles are often supplied in longer lengths for use in framing, bracing, and stiffening structures, where they help improve overall rigidity and load distribution. In some cases, two angles can be fixed back-to-back to form a simple lintel solution. However, one of their most common uses is in smaller, cut sections where they are drilled and used as connection pieces—such as cleats or brackets—linking beams and other members at right angles.
RSA-e sections are typically specified using a format such as 20 x 20 x 3 RSA. This denotes the length of each leg (20mm x 20mm) along with the material thickness (3mm). Although both sides are equal, both dimensions are still stated for clarity and consistency in specification.
